How to Use the CGPA to Percentage Calculator
The calculator above has three tabs. Pick the one that matches what you need, and you’ll have an answer in seconds.
CGPA to Percentage Tab
Enter your CGPA, for example 8.2, and press convert. The tool multiplies it by 9.5 and shows the result straight away.
Use this tab when you have a semester or degree CGPA and a form is asking for marks in percent.
Percentage to CGPA Tab
Type your percentage, such as 75. The tool divides it by 9.5 and gives you the equivalent grade-point score.
It’s handy for scholarships and foreign applications that ask for a CGPA.
SGPA to CGPA Tab
Enter each semester’s SGPA along with its credits. The tool weighs every semester properly and shows your overall CGPA.
Add all the semesters you’ve completed so far. Skipping one will change the result
What is CGPA?
Before converting anything, it helps to know what the number on your marksheet actually stands for.
CGPA Full Form and Meaning
CGPA stands for Cumulative Grade Point Average. It’s the average of the grade points you’ve earned across all semesters, usually on a scale of 10.
Universities don’t add raw marks. They turn the marks in each subject into grade points, then weigh those points by credits.
You may also see it written as CGPI or “pointer”. A CGPA of 8.2 means you averaged roughly 8 grade points out of 10. It doesn’t tell you the exact marks you scored, and that’s why conversion matters.
CGPA Grading Scale (10-Point)
Most Indian universities use a scale like the one below. Letter grades and cut-offs vary a little, so check your own regulations

How to Convert CGPA to Percentage
The method is short. You need one formula and one number.
CGPA to Percentage Formula
The most widely accepted formula is:
Percentage = CGPA × 9.5
CBSE introduced it, and many colleges and employers accept it when a university hasn’t published its own rule.
CGPA Multiplying Factor
The 9.5 in the formula is the multiplying factor. It reflects how grade bands map to the marks students actually score.
A grade point of 10 covers marks from 91 to 100, so the average student in that band lands closer to 95 than 100. Multiplying by 9.5 accounts for that gap.
Some universities use other factors, such as 10, or a formula with a subtraction. The university section below covers those.
Step-by-Step Calculation
Here’s the process:
- Find your CGPA on the marksheet.
- Multiply it by 9.5.
- Add the percent sign.
- Round to two decimal places if the form asks for it.
Try it with 7.4. Multiply 7.4 by 9.5 and you get 70.3, so a 7.4 CGPA equals 70.3%.
CGPA to Percentage Examples (7.6, 8.2, 9.1)
Here are three worked examples:
- 7.6 CGPA: 7.6 × 9.5 = 72.2%
- 8.2 CGPA: 8.2 × 9.5 = 77.9%
- 9.1 CGPA: 9.1 × 9.5 = 86.45%
Small changes in CGPA move the percentage more than you’d expect. Going from 7.6 to 8.2 lifts your score by 5.7 percentage points.

Formula used: Percentage = CGPA × 9.5 (CBSE 10-point scale). Highlighted rows are the most searched values. Universities such as GTU, Mumbai University and Anna University may use their own formula, so check your university’s official notification before using a converted percentage.
The highlighted rows show the most searched values: 6, 6.5, 7, 7.5, 8, 8.5, 9, 9.5 and 10.
10, 9, 8 and 7.5 CGPA in Percentage
These four values come up the most:
- 10 CGPA: 95%
- 9 CGPA: 85.5%
- 8 CGPA: 76%
- 7.5 CGPA: 71.25%
Notice that a perfect 10 gives 95%, not 100%. That’s how the formula is built, and it’s the reason many students are surprised by their converted score.
Percentage to CGPA Converter
Sometimes you need to go the other way. A scholarship form may ask for grade points when all you have is a percentage.
Percentage to CGPA Formula
Just reverse the calculation:
CGPA = Percentage ÷ 9.5
Percentage to CGPA Example
Say you scored 78%. Divide 78 by 9.5 and you get 8.21. That’s your approximate CGPA.
Treat this as an estimate. It’s not an official grade unless your university confirms it.

SGPA to CGPA Calculator
Your CGPA is built from semester results, so it’s worth knowing how the pieces fit.
SGPA vs CGPA
SGPA is your grade point average for one semester. CGPA is the running average across every semester so far.
Think of SGPA as a single report card and CGPA as the whole story.
How to Calculate CGPA of All Semesters
The formula is:
CGPA = Σ (SGPA × credits) ÷ Σ credits
Multiply each semester’s SGPA by its credits, add the results, and divide by the total credits. If every semester has the same credits, a simple average works fine.

simple average of the four SGPAs gives 8.13, which is close. The weighted figure is the one universities use. In percent, 8.14 × 9.5 gives 77.33%.
CBSE CGPA to Percentage
CBSE is the one board with a clearly stated rule, which is why 9.5 is so widely used across the country.
CBSE Class 10 CGPA to Percentage Formula
The formula is the same: Percentage = CGPA × 9.5
A student with a 9.4 CGPA gets 89.3%.
CBSE has changed its result format over the years and now shows marks alongside grades. Older marksheets are where you’ll usually see a CGPA. If you’re unsure which format applies to your batch, check the latest CBSE circular.
University-Wise CGPA to Percentage
This is where things get tricky. Universities are free to set their own rules, and many do.
DU marksheets show SGPA and CGPA. For official use, ask your college for the conversion notice or certificate.
For a quick estimate, many students use the 9.5 multiplier.
Anna University CGPA to Percentage
Anna University students often multiply CGPA by 10 for an approximate percentage, so 8.0 becomes 80%.
That’s a rule of thumb. For formal submissions, follow the university’s own guidance.
Mumbai University CGPA to Percentage
Mumbai University works with CGPI and its own conversion, which isn’t the plain 9.5 multiplier.
Follow the formula in the official circular for your programme. Don’t rely on a general calculator for admissions.
B.Tech and Engineering CGPA to Percentage
Engineering colleges usually follow their affiliating university’s rule, so use the formula printed in your regulations.
When none is given, 9.5 is the standard fallback. Recruiters often ask for a college-issued conversion, so keep one ready.
CGPA vs Percentage
The two look similar on a resume, but they measure different things.
Is CGPA the Same as Percentage?
No. CGPA is an average of grade points on a 10-point scale. Percentage is the share of total marks you scored.
A 9 CGPA doesn’t mean 90%. Under the 9.5 formula, it’s 85.5%. The gap exists because one grade point covers a range of marks, not a single score.
First Class and Second Class Percentage
Most Indian universities use these bands:
- First class: 60% and above
- Second class: 50% to 59.99%
- Pass class: 40% to 49.99%
- Distinction: usually 75% and above
Cut-offs vary by university. On the 9.5 formula, 60% is roughly a 6.3 CGPA.
CGPA to Percentage Conversion Certificate
Some employers and many foreign universities want an official document showing your converted percentage. That’s what this certificate is for.
A calculator result won’t be accepted in its place.
How to Get the Certificate Online
Steps differ by university, but the process usually looks like this:
- Visit your university’s website and look for the certificates or student services section.
- Log in with your roll or enrolment number.
- Choose the conversion certificate option and upload your marksheets.
- Pay the fee online.
- Download the certificate, or collect it from your college.
Some universities still need a written application at the exam section. Processing time varies, so apply well before your deadline.
CGPA to Marks Conversion
Need actual marks instead of a percentage? Convert to percentage first, then apply it to the total marks.
Marks = (CGPA × 9.5 ÷ 100) × Total Marks
Suppose you have 8.2 CGPA in a degree with 600 total marks. That’s 77.9% of 600, which comes to 467.4 marks.
If your university publishes its own grade-to-marks table, use that instead.
